Digital Tools

To achieve our vision of ensuring that every volunteer feels supported, we know that we need better digital tools.

The impact on volunteers... (table)

The project to create a new digital experience for managing membership data has commenced. Over 100 volunteers have already agreed to help UKHQ with the design and testing of our new digital tools as they’re developed. Our current adult membership system is large and complex so it’ll take time to make sure we retain current functionality, and develop a new digital experience that make things easier and much more user friendly. The aim is for volunteers to be able to self-serve information, view updates and complete tasks in real time without having to rely on other people, wherever possible. There will also be some exciting new features to make the everyday things easier for volunteers.

Why we need to transform our digital approach External research and internal feedback tell us clearly that the volunteers of tomorrow expect engaging digital support in all aspects of their volunteering. We don’t have that today, so it’s a gap we need to fill if we want to attract and retain great volunteers. The impact on volunteers

There are a set of 8 digital principles being built into the foundations of how the project does things, they are:

  • We put people at the heart of everything we do

  • We are bold and open to change

  • We create digital-first, responsive and accessible services

  • We use data and insight to drive our decisions

  • We measure, test and learn

  • We engage, collaborate and partner

  • We provide safe and secure services

  • Our systems are flexible, sustainable and interoperable

Improving your digital skills

We’re moving into an increasingly digital world and it’s important we support our members to reap the benefits from the digital tools available to us.  That may mean learning new skills or knowing where to look for sources of information.

To help our volunteers learn about, understand, and use digital tools, the Scouts website has a dedicated area that provides useful information and training. You can find it HERE.
