Scout Counties

County structure

Scout Counties leads scouting across the County, enabling volunteers’ development (with focus on those in the County teams, including District Lead Volunteers), enhancing sections’ programmes in ways which are better delivered at scale and providing operational support.

In each Scout County there are five types of teams:

County Leadership Team

Provide leadership and inspiration to volunteers (and, if relevant, staff members), and ensures County teams are fully developed, organised and focussed on supporting programme delivery.

Programme Team

Support Section programmes where most effectively done by the scale of the County. Provide events which are best delivered at scale, alongside enabling assessments for volunteers to gain adventurous activity permits.

Volunteering Development Team

Ensure all volunteers within County teams have a quality volunteering experience, making it easy for people to join and learn new skills.

Support Team

Provide the tools and resources to enable Scouts to operate effectively.

Trustee Board

Work together to make sure Scouts is run safely and legally.

Sub-teams

Some Counties might find it helpful to have sub-teams, such as a climbing sub-team of the Programme Team, or a campsite service sub-team of the Support Team.

Multiple Counties can share some functions or teams. In this case, the County Leadership Teams make sure the teams are meeting their own County's needs.

County Leadership Team

The County Leadership Team is made up of:

  • County Lead Volunteer(s)

  • County Support Team Leader

  • County Volunteer Development Team Leader

  • County Youth Lead

  • County Programme Team Leader

  • The Lead Volunteer of each District in the County

  • Other Leadership Team Members who may have specific responsibilities
