SLAYS: South London Ambassadors and Young Spokespeople

SLAYS (South London Ambassadors and Young Spokespeople) is an exciting initiative for Explorers who are passionate about making a difference, representing themselves at a County level, and showcasing the voices of young people across South London. As part of this dynamic team, members of SLAYS take on unique opportunities to develop leadership and communication skills, and play a vital role in promoting Scouting within their communities.

What is SLAYS?

SLAYS is all about giving young people the platform and tools to become ambassadors and spokespeople for Scouting. Members actively contribute to county events, represent young people’s perspectives, and help shape the future of Scouting in South London.

Whether it’s speaking at events, engaging with the media, or advocating for youth priorities, SLAYS empowers Explorers to lead, inspire, and create positive change.

What Does a SLAYS Member Do?

  • Represent South London Scouts:
    Be the voice of young people at county events, ensuring that youth perspectives are heard and valued.
  • Engage in Media and Advocacy:
    Learn how to create impactful content, promote Scouting through local and county-wide media, and share the positive stories of Scouting.
  • Serve as Ambassadors:
    Represent Scouting in your community, help to inspire new members, and advocate for the benefits of Scouting to external stakeholders.
  • Support County Initiatives:
    Collaborate with other youth members to contribute to county strategies, events, and campaigns that benefit young people across South London.

Who Can Join SLAYS?

SLAYS is open to Explorers (aged 14–18) who are enthusiastic about representing young people and making a meaningful impact in Scouting. No prior experience is necessary—just a willingness to learn, lead, and contribute!

How to Get Involved

We'll be launching our SLAYS later in the year. This will consist of a weekend of training, followed by opportunities shared with the team.
