Scouting provides skills for life

Scouts are do-ers and give-it-a-go-ers. Yes, we go camping, hiking, swimming, abseiling, cycling and canoeing. But we also get to hang out with our friends every week –  having fun, playing games, working in a team and taking on new challenges.

Every week we give almost half a million 6-25 year olds the skills they need for school, college, university, the job interview, the important speech, the tricky challenge and the big dreams: the skills they need for life.

Everyone’s welcome here. All genders, races and backgrounds. Regardless of your child’s physical ability – there’s a Scout adventure out there waiting for them. And we’ll help them find it.

Sign up to help your child discover their ‘thing’: from abseiling to coding to performance art and everything in between. Find your local group in the Group Finder below, fill out the form and someone will be in touch soon.

Life is an adventure...

Scouting is one of the greatest movements the world has ever known. Scouts have walked on the moon, rowed across oceans, scaled the highest mountains. They have been Prime Ministers and Oscar winners, authors and inventors, World Cup heroes and scientists.

Our former scouts are also social workers, teachers, doctors, engineers, fire fighters, bus drivers, nurses and foster parents (to name but a few): In short they are the people who make our society work. Scouts are all around you. You will know them by their values: cooperation, respect and integrity that they learnt when they were young.

It's easy to forget just how powerful Scouting can be. From international expeditions to creative, community and environmental projects, we offer opportunities that improve the life outcomes of hundreds of thousands of young people every year. In every community in the UK Scouting is transforming lives, providing life changing adventure for young people aged 6–25.

When they memorised the Scout Promise on a cold weekday night, they were not just joining a youth club, they were choosing a code which many would follow throughout their lives. They were making a choice to live a meaningful life, full of fun, adventure and friendship and to put others before themselves.

Today we have over 450,000 youth members across the UK. By 2018 we want to bring Scouting to at least half a million young people and attract enough volunteers to help us do this. Scouting is more relevant today than ever and has the ability to transform lives.

We want to extend our reach even further so every young person across South London has the opportunity to experience Scouting. We are open to all regardless of faith, gender, sexual orientation, race or social background. In fact Scouting is valued most and has its biggest impact in the most deprived parts of our country!

All about badges

Our badges and awards are part of what makes us Scouts. And Scouts love earning them!

There’s never any pressure to do badges. Scouts can do as many or as few as they like. But for those up for a challenge, there are loads of exciting badges to aim for, such as the Chief Scout's Bronze, Silver and Gold Awards – these are the highest awards that Beavers, Cubs and Scouts can earn. And for those going even further, the Queen’s Scout Award is the top achievement for young people in Scouts.
