What it costs
Scouting is an affordable way of providing a range of exciting and adventurous activities for your child.
In a survey, 75% of parents said scouting provided the best value for money compared to other extra-curricular activities like sports and martial arts groups, youth clubs and drama or music classes.
Each group/unit charges a fee (called subscriptions or subs), to cover the costs of running regular meetings – things like venue hire, insurances, games equipment, purchasing of badges and materials for activities. There are sometimes extra charges for special activities, camps and events (which you pay for if you are attending). We try to keep our subs as low as possible so that anyone can come to scouts.
The cost of sending your child to scouts will vary depending on your scout group/explorer unit. It is likely to be between £50 and £120 a year and this may be collected weekly, monthly or each term etc. depending on local arrangements.
If you need help paying subs, please speak to your leader..
