In October 2020 South London Scouts will be holding the “South London Scouts Offshore Sailing Trophy 2020”.
Participants will need to arrive at our base on the River Hamble nr Southampton, at 8pm on Friday 9th Oct. We will then spend a night on board, before setting off after breakfast on Saturday.
Saturday is a practice day, and so you'll be out sailing, learning how to hoist sails, tack and gybe, and everybody gets the opportunity to take the helm - sailing with us is always hands on! There will also be experienced volunteer Sea Staff on board, so no prior sailing experience is needed. Saturday evening will be spent in Cowes for a BBQ, and a chance to meet the other crews taking part. Sunday will be race day. We'll be all finished and ready to go home by 4-5 pm on the Sunday.
This event is open to Scouts, Explorers, and leaders - for obvious reasons we would like as many places to be filled by Scouts / Explorers as is practical. The minimum age is 11 to take part.
The cost is £125 per head, which covers sailing, food and accommodation, and waterproof kit for the event. All participants will be responsible for getting themselves to and from the event (we will endeavour to organise car shares where possible).
In short this is an awesome opportunity to have the experience of a lifetime. If you are interested, in the first instance please email David Liddle on firstname.lastname@example.org. Due to the practicalities of organising boats and crews for the same weekend this event must be organised well in advance, and we expect this to sell out quickly.
We look forward to seeing you ship shape are raring to go!
